TRAC Builders served as the General Contractor for the restoration of Cambridge City Hall, originally designed by Longfellow, Alden & Harlow and built between 1887 and 1890. Situated in the heart of the city’s historic district, the building is a cornerstone of civic life in Cambridge. The restoration, completed over a 13-month construction period, was guided by Finegold Alexander Architects in collaboration with Simpson Gumpertz & Heger and Arup, with oversight from the Cambridge Historical Commission. One of the defining aspects of this project was its commitment to historic accuracy. Materials were sourced globally to match original granite and terracotta elements, and joint beams were added to support heavier new stones. Every step of the process involved collaboration among the design team, engineers, and city officials to ensure the project met stringent preservation standards. The result is a beautifully restored civic landmark that honors its architectural legacy while serving the community well into the future.

“TRAC’s on-site personnel were excellent, working diligently to solve issues and minimize disruptions to building occupants.”
